Last Minute Clean Up
If you have been smart and arrived 10-15 minutes before your interview time, you have time to visit the restroom. Besides making sure you have your bladder under control, it gives you a chance to do a few things. You can do last minute touch ups such as make-up, check hair, check clothes for no animal hair or anything else, got sweaty palms then wash them and dry them. Just in case you are sick before the interview through nerves, make sure you a small bottle of mouthwash to rinse your mouth. Yes some people do get nervous and are sick before an interview!
Instead of just sitting there like a statue, observe what is going on around you. What does the atmosphere feel like? How are the employees interacting with other? Are they happy or stressed? You can learn a bit of information so why not gain it now. If you can’t see the team or employees, then look to see if there any literature about. You main gain some new information that can help you impress in the interview. There is another reason to be observant. The receptionist and team can see you looking interested and so if they are asked for their opinion they can say you looked like you were interested which will help you look good.
Review Application Material or Notes
If you are in a waiting area where there is no company material to read or you can’t observe the employees, then why not use the time to either review you application material or any notes you have made. This can help refresh your memory and even help you compose yourself.
Some interview candidates can find it very difficult to stay calm. For many various reasons they get nervous and this can have a negative impact on their job interview performance. If you suffer from interview nerves, then use this time to collect yourself. You can go the restroom to use any relaxation technique you have researched in private or just take a few deep breathes and think positive relaxing thoughts. The more relaxed & calm you are, the better you can perform.
