Job searching is not a fun process and can be difficult at times. Here are a few things to keep in mind when your conducting your job search.

  • Motivation
To do any task you need to be motivated. If your not motivated then you're really not applying yourself. If your not motivated for your job search, then this will be reflected in your CV, covering letter and applications. You could be missing out on opportunities. Motivation is key in your job search. You need to be ready to go, focused and ready for anything.

  • Hard Work
Job searching takes hard work and you got to be prepared for this. You need to always work at your job search approach, networking and even your job search tools (CV/Covering Letter etc). If your not prepared to work hard at looking for a job, is an employer going to be keen to hire you. Jobs don't simply land on our laps. You have to work hard to find them and grab them.

  • Mistakes - Learn From Them
No one is perfect and we all make mistakes during our job search. The important thing is not to let the mistakes knock you back. Learn from what went wrong and don't make same mistakes twice. Your job search is a continuous learning experience to find the right winning formula!

  • Self-Assessment
It is important during your job search that you look at yourself. You need to see what are your skills/qualities and what are your weaknesses. What things do you need to work and develop on. Job search is about finding out about yourself and it key you know who you are as employers will want to find this out.

  • Manage Yourself
It is important that you take control of your job search. Not everything can be done at once. You need to plan an decide what will be done and when. Plan out your job search. Work at different things at different times. If you manage yourself then your job search will run more smoothly.

  • Risks
We all have to take a risk at some point in our lives and our job search is no different. However, the risks you take will be, do you apply for a job when you meet all but two of the criteria or is it worth doing a course knowing could miss out on jobs. At times we just need to take a risk and if it doesn't pay of we learn from it. Some times playing it safe doesn't always get you there so don't be afraid to take a little risk but MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THOUGHT IT THROUGH!!
