- Make A Plan - Make sure you know which employers/companies you going to target & also who you wish to network with.
- Appearance - Make sure you dress to impress the companies in attendance. Treat this like you would attending an interview.
- Research - Not researching the companies will not help you make a good impression, especially when you have to answer questions about them. Research the companies you are going to target to help you impress & show that you are ready & prepared.
- Network - These events are great opportunity to network with not only other job seekers but with professionals and potential contacts in the industry. Introduce yourself, getting chatting and try and get contact details.
- Listen To Information - There will be lots of information going around. Keep your ears open to all the information going round. Some of it could be useful & helpful.
- Be Prepared To Answer Questions - You will be asked questions by various individuals during these events. Make sure you are ready to answer questions about yourself and don't be guarded or shy.
- Follow Up - Following up with the contacts you made at these events is a MUST. It helps you continue not only making a good impression but to develop your network.
- Use Time Wisely - Use your time well. Make sure you know where & what companies to target. Give yourself time goals e.g. visit companies 1 & 2 by 12.30pm.
- Look Around - Never rule out options at these events. Have a good look around & see what other companies are there and what they have to offer. Something could surprise you!
- Arrive Early - Some of these events do not last longer than a few hours, so make sure you arrive early to use all the time to achieve your goals, look around and network.
- Manners - Make sure your behaviour is top notch. Again we come back to making an impression. You make look good on paper & in appearance but if you can't show proper manners & behaviour then this will count against you. Show proper manners & respect.
- Sell Yourself - These events are about showing companies that you are the right person for them. Not only that, you also want to make new helpful contacts. To do all this you need to sell yourself. Make sure you show not only your skills, achievements etc but also who you are and what you can do. Make an lasting impression!
