Despite the development of the methods in way we can apply for job positions, applications forms are still around and used by companies to help spot potential new employees. They are a tried and tested method of helping companies narrow down the candidate lists to a select few. Now days, most application forms can be found online but some candidates still prefer to hand write their copy out. If you are completing applications forms, here are some helpful tips to help you!
• Read all instructions carefully, more than once & make sure you follow them to the latter!
• Make a copy of your application form (whether hand writing or doing it on your computer) to draft out your responses. You will want the employer to receive a copy that is immaculate with no errors of any kind e.g. corrections, spelling mistakes!
• Make sure there are no unexplained gaps on your employment history!
• Never put ‘See Enclosed CV’ in any section of your application. It will how you can’t/won’t follow instructions and that you’re lazy. More likely your application will be rejected for this!
• When completing a written application form & the boxes are not big enough for your responses, either you think of your words carefully & if you need to write more, attach a piece of paper referencing the section/question number with your continued response & refer to it on the form!
• Show a positive attitude in your form & highlight your achievements with evidence when showing meeting job requirements!
• Once draft written form has been achieved, transfer all to the original form in your best handwriting (MOST FORMS ASK YOU TO WRITE IN CAPITAL LETTERS) & in the colour ink requested!
• Once you have completed application form, always make or save a copy for you to refer to as part of your interview preparation!
• If posting your application form, sending it by recorded delivery will help you know that the employer has received it!
